Cornhuskers Park Wetland Delineation & LOI Verification

Township of Readington | Hunterdon County, NJ

Van Cleef conducted a wetland delineation at Cornhuskers Park for Readington Township by one of Van Cleef’s qualified wetland scientists according to the Federal Manual for Identifying and Delineating Jurisdictional Wetlands (1989), the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Wetland Delineation Manual (1987), and the Regional Supplements to the Corps of Engineers Wetland Delineation Manual: Eastern Mountains and Piedmont Region (2012). Use of these methodologies is required by the NJDEP Division of Land Resource Protection and the USACE.

A detailed desktop review was performed prior to any site visit to provide contextual background history of the site and its ecological characters. A series of field observations were made to confirm the presence of the wetland areas based on positive wetland indicators of hydrology, hydrophytic vegetation, and hydric soils. Upon examination of the regional characteristics, as well as field observations, the soils were confirmed to be derived from problematic red parent material, which is challenging to accurately identify as a hydric indicator. Further research of the material confirmed its problematic nature as well as which hydric qualities to identify. Wetland areas were then delineated, and Van Cleef’s survey team located the boundaries to be represented in a wetland plan for submission to NJDEP via a Letter Of Interpretation: Line Verification application.
