Van Cleef Engineering performs yearly Formal Dam Inspections of Penn Forest Reservoir and Dam. The reservoir is owned by the Bethlehem Authority and operated by the City of Bethlehem, as part of their potable water supply. Penn Forest Dam was originally constructed in the 1950’s and reconstructed in the late 1995 as a composite roller compacted concrete (RCC) and earth fill structure. The dam is approximately 180 feet high at its maximum section with a crest length of approximately 2,050 feet. The inspection report indicated that the newly rehabilitated structure was in good condition and required no immediate repairs or long-term improvements. The dam has an adit for internal drainage. An annual instrumentation report is also prepared discussing the results of 30 piezometers & 10 weirs and provides recommendations.
Van Cleef updated the Emergency Action Plan (EAP) which was approved by PA Dam Safety.
