Van Cleef was assigned to update Grove Park from its original format to create a 10’ wide loop trail around the perimeter of the park to be utilized by runners, walkers, maintenance vehicles, and connecting the various Park amenities together.
The large central open area is to be enlarged for open play and regraded to eliminate drainage problems at the site. The Playground/Tot Lot is to have a new fence to surround and contain the play equipment and keep the children safe from wandering out into the streets. A new rubberized, poured in place surface is added to the Playground for safety beneath the play equipment.
A new secondary walkway oval is added on the south side of the site with additional trees for shade and additional ornamental flowering trees for color and interest. A new flagpole location had been added to the far southwest corner of the site, but in the end, was eliminated, since the Village decided it was unnecessary. Planting beds with Magnolias and groundcover have been added to the five (5) main entrances to the park to add interest upon entering the Park.
Additional shade trees have been added around the Playground/Tot Lot for shading of the play equipment. Trash has always been a problem, so benches and trash cans have been added throughout the Park. Many benches have also been added around the Play Equipment.
The distance of the perimeter pathway for walking/running is calculated to be one mile and will be marked accordingly for runners to calculate their workout.
