MUNICIPAL ENGINEERING

PROJECT

Ann Benchoff Memorial Park

Township of Ewing | Mercer County, NJ

Van Cleef partnered with Ewing Township to transform a 48+ acre parcel into a dynamic passive and active recreational park following the donation of nearly 50 acres by a conservation-minded resident. Funding support was also secured through the New Jersey Green Acres Program.

Van Cleef led the project from conceptual park master planning through final design, including preparation of engineering drawings, specifications, bid coordination, and contractor selection. Construction phase services included periodic site visits, coordination of change orders, and review and approval of contractor payments to ensure quality and compliance.

A key environmental challenge involved restoring a shallow, sludge-filled pond. Van Cleef obtained and maintained the necessary NJDEP permits for dredging, renewing approvals as needed throughout construction to achieve the desired pond depth and functionality.

Today, the park features a diverse range of amenities, including tennis courts, central gathering spaces, walking and biking trails, hiking paths, a children’s tot lot, and a picnic grove. The revitalized pond—enhanced with an aerating fountain to support water quality—serves as a focal point and popular destination within the park.
