Van Cleef has been awarded two (2) separate inspection projects which included the inventory and field inspections for GSP overhead sign structures.
Routine and in-depth inspections were performed on a combined 96 span and 189 Cantilever sign structures (285 total structures). Structures are located along the roadway and ramp network of the Garden State Parkway (GSP), including all NJTA-owned structures between MP 0 and 81 and between MP 111 and 138, covering over 100 miles of the GSP.
Sign structure types included steel vierendeel structures, consisting of 2 to 4 chord trusses. Work includes daytime and nighttime inspections using NJTA-approved lane and shoulder closings, developing individual inspection reports utilizing Bentley AssetWise (formerly InspectTech) with detailed inspection findings and recommendation for repair, many first cycle inspections, and updating the NJTA Sign Structure Database, which includes sign information, field notes, photos, and as-built information. Each structure also requires the development of foundation anchor bolt and undercealrance sketches, and additional chord flange splice sketches. All work will follow current NJTA and FHWA requirements.
Scope in this contract also includes the ultrasonic testing of all anchor bolts of all structures. Findings are inputted into the AssetWise system and included in each report. These contracts also included the aerial-drone inspection of two (2) structures on a trial basis, to determine future feasibility of this type of inspection. Significant coordination with NJTA Engineering and Operations was required for special access.
