Van Cleef, as a subconsultant to ATANE, was contracted to perform the biennial NBIS inspection of six GSP Major Bridges 28.0SR, 28.5N, 28.5SR, 51.9N, 49.0N and 49.0S for the New Jersey Turnpike Authority. Bridge span lengths ranged from 700’ to 3,840’ and up to 21 spans over waterways such as the Bass River, Mullica River and the Great Egg Harbor. Bridge types included deep prestressed concrete beams (continuous for live load), Girder-Floorbeam-Stringer NSTM, and steel multi-girder. Access required the use of a UB-60 underbridge unit, bucket (lift) boats, and coordination for lane/shoulder closings along the GSP.
Work included routine NBE inspections, NSTM inspections, Category A/Priority conditions, detailed documentation of prestressed girder cracks, nocturnal navigational lighting inspections, interim light pole inspections, and development of inspection reports thru NJTA’s web-based AssetWise program. Work also included incorporation of underwater inspection findings, clearance/sounding sketches, several Category A/Priority conditions, and development of inspection reports thru NJTA’s web-based AssetWise program.
