PROJECT

Replacement of Bridge B0404 Wertsville Road Over Tributary to Neshanic River

Township of Hillsborough | Somerset County, NJ

Van Cleef was contracted by Somerset County Department of Public Works to provide design services for the replacement of (1) 6.3’ span steel stringer bridge (widened with elliptical pipe) with hydraulically equivalent 5’ span box culvert, (2) 9.7’ span steel stringer bridge (widened with elliptical pipe) with hydraulically equivalent 6’ span box culvert, and (3) replacement of 170’ reinforced concrete retaining wall along stream with new reinforced concrete retaining wall. Project included approximately 400 Linear Feet of approach roadway reconstruction. Project design required the construction to be completed while supporting at least one lane of traffic through intersection between the wall and Bridge B0403. The project was designed so as not to require acquisition of Green Acres-encumbered parkland.

Project included topographic survey, geotechnical engineering design, roadway and bridge design, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis of existing and proposed conditions, obtaining NJDEP Flood Hazard Area and Freshwater Wetlands permits, detour plan, coordination with Township Officials, preparation of cost and quantity estimates, specifications, coordination with utilities, temporary construction easement acquisition, Working Drawing review and addressing contractors RFI’s.
