Van Cleef was contracted by the New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) to provide maintenance and safety upgrades at Structure No. P2.03S and along Cedar Lane in Florence Township, NJ.
Cedar Lane serves an area with a high concentration of warehouse facilities, resulting in significant volumes of large truck traffic. The existing horizontal curvature of the roadway was insufficient in width to safely accommodate this traffic, leading to frequent encroachments over the double yellow centerline and repeated impacts to the guide rail. The sharp curvature of this roadway also warranted curve advisory signage, and the roadside slopes experienced significant erosion at several locations. In addition, Structure No. P2.03 along Cedar Lane required various repairs and parapet upgrades to its attachments to guide rail.
- Van Cleef designed the following improvements:
- Widening along the curved segment of the roadway to accommodate large trucks
- Resurfacing and restriping along Cedar Lane
- Replacement of damaged and substandard guide rail along both sides of Cedar Lane, including attachments to the bridge parapets
- Repair and restore existing drainage systems, lip curbs, and steep roadside slopes
- Install new curve advisory signage and speed posting
- Repairs to NJTA Structure No. P2.03S
With construction completed in this past May, this targeted safety initiative significantly mitigates roadway risks and delivers a modernized corridor engineered for optimal traffic safety.
